🇹🇷 Budapest in 3 Days - What to See, Where to Eat & How to Experience the City

Budapest is the kind of city where you can walk around all day and still want to stay outside a little longer in the evening. The Danube, historic buildings, thermal baths, and the city lit up at night - three days is more than enough to see Budapest’s main sights while also experiencing its atmosphere.
📍 Day 1 - Buda & the Best Views
Start your first day by visiting Buda Castle and Fisherman’s Bastion.
Fisherman’s Bastion offers one of the best views in Budapest, overlooking the Danube and the Parliament Building. It’s a good idea to go in the morning, before it gets too crowded.
Then, simply wander through the old streets of Buda. My advice is not to plan every minute around a specific attraction - the peaceful streets and relaxed atmosphere are what make this area so enjoyable.
In the evening, head to the Danube waterfront and enjoy the city lights.
📍 Day 2 - Parliament, the Danube & the Lively Side of the City
On your second day, head to the Hungarian Parliament Building - one of Budapest’s most iconic landmarks and definitely worth seeing from the outside.
Then take a walk along the Danube. If you’re not tired of walking, simply follow the river and explore the city as you go. Budapest is one of those cities where sometimes wandering without a specific plan is more enjoyable.
In the evening, head to the Jewish Quarter. You’ll find plenty of cafés, street food, and the city’s famous ruin bars.
If you want to experience Budapest’s nightlife, definitely check out one of these bars. Their old buildings, unusual interiors, and unique atmosphere make them truly special.
📍 Day 3 - Thermal Baths & a Relaxing Evening
Visiting Budapest without going to a thermal bath at least once would be a shame, in my opinion.
Spend your third day at Széchenyi Thermal Bath. One of the best parts is relaxing in the warm outdoor pools while taking a break from the city’s busy atmosphere.
Afterwards, you can walk around Heroes’ Square and City Park.
In the evening, my main recommendation is simple - head back to the Danube waterfront.
Grab a coffee or tea, sit down, and enjoy the view of the illuminated Parliament Building.
Sometimes the best Budapest experience isn’t a museum or a specific attraction - it’s simply sitting by the Danube in the evening.
What should you try?
Make sure to try:
- Lángos - fried dough with different toppings;
- Goulash - a traditional Hungarian dish;
- Chimney Cake - a popular sweet street dessert.
How to get around?
Budapest has a convenient public transport system. The metro, trams, and buses make it easy to get around different parts of the city.
If you’re travelling along the Danube, definitely take Tram 2 - it offers beautiful views along the way. A 3-day public transport pass can also be a convenient option.
Stay online throughout your trip
You’ll need internet in Budapest for maps, finding public transport routes, and exploring the city freely.
