🇹🇷 Istanbul in 3 Days - What to See, Where to Eat & How to Experience the City

Istanbul is one of those cities where three days never feels like enough. But with the right plan, you can see the highlights while still experiencing the city’s unique atmosphere.
The key? Don’t try to see everything in three days. Walk around, slow down, take breaks, and simply enjoy the city.
📍 Day 1 - Historic Istanbul
Start your first day in Sultanahmet. Hagia Sophia, the Blue Mosque, and the Basilica Cistern are all close to each other, so you won’t waste too much time getting around.
After exploring the old streets, head towards the Eminönü waterfront in the evening. This is the perfect place to try the famous Balık Ekmek - a traditional fish sandwich - while enjoying the views of the Bosphorus.
📍 Day 2 - Galata, Streets & the Rhythm of the City
Spend your second day exploring Karaköy and Galata.
Of course, visit the Galata Tower, but don’t stop at taking a photo in front of it. Some of the most interesting parts are the small streets and cafés around the tower.
Then walk along İstiklal Street, but make sure to turn into the smaller side streets too. You’ll find cozy cafés, vintage shops, and a more authentic side of Istanbul.
In the evening, take a public ferry ride. Grab a simit and some tea, sit back, and simply watch the city go by.
📍 Day 3 - The Asian Side & Local Istanbul
On your third day, cross over to Kadıköy. Many tourists skip the Asian side of Istanbul, but it’s one of the best places to experience a more relaxed and local atmosphere.
Explore the Kadıköy Market, discover small shops, try some street food, and then walk towards Moda.
One of my favorite things to do here is also one of the simplest: grab a simit, tea, or roasted chestnuts and sit by the Moda waterfront.
You don’t need an expensive restaurant or a perfectly planned itinerary. Just sit back, watch the sea, the boats, and the city.
Sometimes, these simple moments are what you remember most from a trip.
What should you try?
During your three days in Istanbul, make sure to try:
▪️Simit - an affordable and classic Turkish street food
▪️Balık Ekmek - a traditional fish sandwich
▪️Pide - a Turkish dish similar to pizza
▪️Turkish coffee
▪️Turkish tea
How to Get Around:
Istanbul is a huge city, and traffic can be heavy, so try to use the metro, tram, and especially the ferries whenever possible.
The ferry isn’t just a way to get from A to B - it’s also one of the best ways to see Istanbul from a different perspective.
