🇹🇷 Rome in 3 Days - What to See, Where to Eat & How to Experience the City

Rome is the kind of city where simply walking around becomes part of the experience. You might be heading somewhere specific and suddenly discover a beautiful street, square, or little cafe that wasn’t even part of your plan.
That’s why my main tip for Rome is: don’t plan every minute. Definitely visit the main attractions, but leave some time to simply wander around and enjoy the city.
📍 Day 1 - Rome’s iconic landmarks
Start your first day at the Colosseum. Then explore the area around the Roman Forum and Palatine Hill.
From there, continue on foot towards the city centre and finish the day at the Trevi Fountain.
Our tip: don’t just take a photo at the Trevi Fountain and leave. Grab a coffee or gelato and sit nearby for a while.
📍 Day 2 - Vatican City & an evening in Trastevere
Spend your second day exploring Vatican City and St. Peter’s Basilica.
If you’re planning to visit the Vatican Museums too, booking your ticket in advance is a good idea, as the queues can get quite long.
After St. Peter’s Basilica, walk towards Castel Sant’Angelo and then continue exploring the city centre.
In the evening, head to Trastevere.
It’s one of Rome’s liveliest and most atmospheric neighbourhoods, with narrow streets, small restaurants and plenty of people enjoying the evening outside.
Just wander around and don’t choose the first touristy restaurant you see. Take a turn into the smaller side streets - you might discover somewhere much more interesting.
📍 Day 3 - Slow Rome & city views
Take it a little slower on your third day.
Go for a walk through Villa Borghese and then head to Pincio Terrace, where you can enjoy one of the beautiful views over Rome.
If you want to experience a more local side of the city, head to Testaccio. You’ll find local markets, pizzerias and plenty of traditional Roman street food.
What should you try?
While in Rome, make sure to try:
- Cacio e Pepe
- Carbonara
- Roman-style pizza
- Gelato
- Italian espresso
One little tip: in Italy, you really don’t need a special reason to have gelato.
